Character Design Exploration
A digital character exploration done in Procreate and edited in Photoshop to practice character design and expression.

Step 1: Mood Board
I always start my projects by looking for inspiration online. This helps me to better visualize what I want the end product to look like and to keep my ideas consistent!

Step 2: Rough Sketches
Next, I do some rough sketching to get my initial ideas down. Things usually change and shift a bit from this stage but it's important for getting the basic shapes in place.

Step 3: Clean Line Art
Cleaning up my rough sketches and making them more refined is the next step. This is when more details begin to emerge and pieces start to fall into place!

Step 4: Flat Colours
I add in my flat colours next to make sure everything looks cohesive. I usually spend a bit of time on this step playing around with different options until I land on one I like.

Step 5: Painting and Shading
Then we get to the fun part! I start painting more depth and details on top of my flat colours. This is always my favourite step and where most of my time is spent.

Step 6: Final Details and Lighting
Lastly, I add finishing details and lighting affects using different kinds of transparency layers. I knew I wanted this piece to look like laying under the stars so I added darker lighting and colder highlights to make it look like nighttime.
